Frequently Asked Questions
Here is a list of common questions we receive at G3 Outfitters to help you along your way when booking a trip with us.

Q: Do we have to bring any fishing gear?
A: No, we provide all fishing gear and equipment for an awesome day on the water. If you really wish to bring a certain piece of equipment, please check with your guide or booking agent prior to ensure it will work well on our boat.

Q: Do you provide fishing licenses?
A: No, You MUST purchase and provide us with a copy (or photo on your phone) of your fishing license to fish on our boats. Licenses can be purchased online here through the link or at one of our local sporting goods stores PURCHASE FISHING LICENSE

Q: What sort of clothing/gear should we bring?
A: That depends on time of year, but during summer months its generally a good idea to bring a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, extra layers, rainproof layers, and if you are wanting to swim bring swimsuits! During spring and fall (colder months) it is definitely advised to bring extra warm layers, warm hats and gloves and rainproof clothing.

Q: Will there be Snacks/Drinks provided?
A: Yes, although we don't generally provide full meals on the boat we always have light snacks on hand such as granola bars, chips, or jerky. We always have bottles of water and keep them iced during hot summer days.

Q: Can we bring our own food or drinks on the boat?
A: Yes! We always recommend bringing extra snacks, drinks, or meals on the boat. We are not worried about crumbs or mess so please bring whatever you would like. Alcoholic beverages are OK if consumed in moderation.

Q: How long will we be fishing for on our charter?
A: We try and provide you with as much fishing time as possible during our charters. Although there is a small amount of travel time involved with getting to the best spot everyday, the size of our lake and our launch location generally allows us to spend no more than 15 minutes travelling to the fishing spot every trip. We will be setup and ready upon your arrival so once we get to the spot, lines are dropped immediately and fish should start biting!

Q: Which lake is better fishing, Whitefish or Flathead?
A: This is a complicated answer as they are both awesome fishing! You will get a slightly different experience on either lake as Whitefish Lake is a bit smaller, and so is the average size of fish i comparison to Flathead lake. That being said, we generally catch more fish per trip on Whitefish lake, and there is still a good chance of hooking a big one there. We have pulled numerous fish over 20# out of whitefish lake, and if targeting Northern Pike the average size is 5-8#, a bit bigger than most lake trout on Flathead lake! Both lakes are awesome fishing and wil truly feel like an Alpine lake adventure.

Q:What will the weather be like on our trip?
A: That depends on the day and time of year. Being in a mountainous, alpine climate our weather can change quickly throughout any one day. Generally, July and August are fairly rain free and warmer weather. May-June can be a bit cooler and rain storms are expected. September can remain fairly hot but rain often times moves into our area around then. Our main boat for Flathead lake is equipped with a rainproof hard top cabin that will keep you dry during your trip.

Q:Will we see animals if we go to wild horse island?
A: Although it is not guaranteed that you will see animals while on the island, it is highly likely. There are high numbers of Bighorn Sheep, Whitetail and Mule deer, as well as the herd of horses that resides on the island. We will generally do a lap around the island in the boat to the places the horses frequent most to give you a look at them from the water. After that you can choose to explore however you like during your time on the island.

Q: How much fun will we have on our trip?
A: A metric ton of fun!

Q: Do we need to know how to fish?
A: No, we encourage beginners and first timers to book with us. We love to teach! Getting a beginner fisher to bring in a fish on the boat is one of the most rewarding experiences for our Guides.

Q: Where do we meet you for our trip?
A: That depends on which trip you booked. For flathead lake charters/tours, we generally meet at Somers Boat ramp on the north end of flathead lake. It is the closest launch point to the city of Kalispell or Whitefish. For whitefish lake we meet at Whitefish lake state park. If you are staying at the lodge at whitefish lake, we can pick you up from their dock.
